Forestry is the foundation of our Nation’s History. The first settlers to visit this land were wood cutters and the economy was built on wood cutting. In 1774, the largest recorded mahogany tree was felled measuring 3.65 meters (11.96 ft.) in diameter. In 1886, a visit was carried out to inspect the forests and timber trade and resulted in a report, Hooper Report, that recommended the forming of a forest department.
The Programme for Belize (PFB) is a Belizean, non-profit organization, established in 1988, to promote the conservation of the natural heritage of Belize and to promote wise use of its natural resources. The Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area is its flagship project where Programme for Belize demonstrates the practical application of its principles.
Pesticides Control in Belize is governed by the Pesticides Control Act, Chapter 181B of the Laws of Belize, and its enabling regulations. The Pesticides Control Board is the statutory body responsible for the implementation of the provisions of the Pesticides Control Act.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is firmly committed to sustainable rural development and sees the agricultural sector (including livestock and fisheries) as providing the economic base for enhanced economic growth of the country (in particular the rural areas) and addressing poverty alleviation.
The George Price Centre for Peace and Development is a non-profit organization established in honour of George Price and his lifelong devotion to the peaceful development of Belize and its people. The aim of the Centre is to preserve the legacy of this National Hero and to inspire individuals, regardless of race, colour, creed or political persuasion, to promote the message of peace and development for Belize, its wider Region and the World.
