Great Belize Productions Ltd. began operations as a small video production facility in 1982, less than one year after the introduction of television to Belize. With a staff never numbering more than five people, it specialized in producing commercials, documentaries and corporate promotions. In 1991 GBP was granted a broadcasting license by the government and became the nation’s first television station with its own production capability.  Since that time, broadcasting on Channel 5 from Belize City and repeating on different frequencies throughout the country, Great Belize Television has become Belize’s leading television station and foremost provider of local and regional programming. Operating with a staff of 30, the station has gained an international reputation for producing high quality work.

News 5 Live is the flagship news program of Great Belize Television, Channel 5 ever since its premiere on December 5, 1991. The news is produced for broadcast every night from Monday to Friday. It is an hour in length including commercials and airs weekdays at 6:30pm, repeated later at night at 10:00pm and at 12:00pm the following afternoon.

The idea for the KREM Radio station originated in early 1979 while Rufus X and I were visiting New Orleans. There was a New Orleans deejay I liked, by the name of Sister Love, and one day Rufus and his cousin, Sam Wiley, who was our host, showed me the building where the radio station which featured Sister Love was located. It was quite a modest, one flat structure, much smaller than the three story Albert Cattouse Building from where the Belize government monopoly station – Radio Belize – was broadcasting.

So I saw where a radio station could be a manageable enterprise if your vision was reasonable.

Time is the proof to all things. The record shows that KREM Radio is now the oldest Belizean radio station. This longevity we consider a mark of distinction, because it’s been a rough road. Needless to say, the vital ingredient has been the constant support of the Belizean people. Visit Website
