Village Councils, the District Association of Village Councils(DAVCO), and the National Association of Village Councils (NAVCO) have been instituted to ensure improved conditions for the rural communities of Belize.  Forty nine percent (49%) of the population of Belize lives in rural areas (2007 Mid-Year Population Estimates, Statistical Institute of Belize).

This great portion of the population struggles with poverty and lack of access to some very basic services, as well as to services that bring development opportunities.  Many of the residents of villages rely on agriculture for income; some villages still do not have potable water, electricity or paved roads, and very few, have reliable communication links.  Visit WebSite
